Getjar reaches 30,000 ShotCode users in 4 months[April 5th 2006] Getjar, a large mobile online software distributor, is using ShotCodes to simplify their mobile software downloads drastically. One only needs to scan the unique ShotCode, which is depicted next to the software title, and confirm the download. Afterwards, the mobile phone starts downloading the software immediately. Difficult installation methods as first downloading the software to the pc and then installing by cable, infrared or Bluetooth have become superfluous. Officially launched on November 29th 2005, Getjar has reached more than 30.000 customers, which have resulted in more than 100.000 scans in 4 months. According to Dennis Timmermans, partner in OP3 (the company that owns the ShotCode technology), this is ‘an industry record outside South Korea and Japan as far as we know it’. Till now, only the Symbian ShotCode reader is implemented at Getjar. The other operating systems as Windows Mobile, Palm, UIQ and Java MidP 2.0 are already ShotCode compatible, but till now have not been yet introduced for the download application. According to Dennis Timmermans, managing partner in OP3, ‘this will happen soon’. By applications as introduced at Getjar, OP3 is growing their ShotCode technology rapidly to a standard, which companies and governmental institutions can use to their advantage. According to Timmermans, OP3 deploys various business models. "The buiness model depends on the requested service. For consumers the ShotCode technology is always free to use." |
