[February 11th 2000] We currently link from our portal site to the
webcab.de email service, but several of you have commented that this service is
not particularly user-friendly! so
we will very soon replace this link with a direct link to our own email script.
This will allow you to read your ISP emails, and reply, delete etc these
messages - all from your WAP phone! We
are just debugging our email script and hope to launch this in about a week from
now A number of you have expressed interest in hosting WML sites with WAPfone
- and you're maybe wondering why we haven't yet offered these services.
This delay has been for a couple of reasons.
We had firstly to install our Linux servers at Redbus and configure them
for hosting. This is now all
completed. But the second issue
concerned access problems (below) - and of course, we want to eliminate all
access difficulties before we offer a commercial hosting service.
We are almost there but ask for your patience. Since we launched WAPfone.com on January 10th we have endeavoured to sort
out all our access problems. We
initially had problems with access from Scotland and Northern UK, but pressure
onto BT resolved this. Next, we
noticed strange access problems to our home pages during the early afternoons.
This was traced to an illegal IP routing entry being advertised by Cable
Internet. Finally, several of you have recently reported access difficulties during
the afternoons. We are
investigating these. It seems only
to affect isdn connections (you should still be able to connect with your phone
set for an analogue connection). Although
our servers can see your ISDN connection coming in, the ISDN format has been
corrupted somewhere in the networks - and our servers reject it! We're working hard to resolve this problem but if you do experience
access problems please do tell us about it.
We need to know whether you can connect using analogue settings, what
time of day the problem occurs, from which mobile network you're trying to
connect - and your city location. All
this information will help us to track down the culprit network! We're hard at work signing up new content providers for our WAPfone
portal. Here's a taste of
