High Noon for High Street Retailers as WAP gets its 'Killer App'

After months of speculation about the appeal and credibility of available services on the new web-enabled WAP mobile phones, a UK-based company has become the first to create a real "Killer Application": a WAP accessible online shopping service.

Checkaprice.com's WAP shopping service heralds a revolution in shopping, making it truly mobile for the first time. Irrespective of their location, users of the WAP service can compare high street prices with the best available on the Internet, particularly useful for those last minute haggling situations.

The creation of the WAP-based service comes hot on the heels of the March launch of www.checkaprice.com <http://www.checkaprice.com>, the UK's first comprehensive comparison shopping site designed to help online shoppers find the best value amongst the ever-growing number of products and services for sale on the Internet.

"We're really excited about the potential for WAP phone shopping and the impact it will have on the way the British public shops," says director and co-founder of Checkaprice.com Ltd, Jeremy Longley. "The checkaprice.com website has already given people the ability to compare prices, find the best value, and buy what they want, when they want.

With the WAP-based service we've now gone a step further and given consumers access to comparison information wherever they are.

It is the high street, however, where the company feels WAP shopping will have its greatest impact. Longley continues: "I carried out a mobile shopping experiment last week. Armed with a Nokia 7110 I visited my local big name electrical retail outlet and proved that huge savings could be made. A brand name 24" Superflat TV for example was being advertised at £428.75. By dialling into wap.checkaprice.com/, however, I was able to find an online retailer selling the same product for £323.12 including delivery."
