Nokia offers Windows Live apps

An unholy alliance between the beast of Redmond and the world's leading handset manufacturer, Nokia, has just been announced over access to Windows Live services. There's four applications which are now available for download to certain Nokia handsets. These are: - Windows Live Hotmail; Windows Live Messenger; Windows Live Contacts; and Windows Live Spaces. The catch is that they are all free except for Live Messenger for which you get a free trail for 30 days. They don't actually say how much you will have to pay after that. There's a list of which Series 60 handsets are compatible on the Nokia web site here . But beware, those with Nokia N73s may well have to upgrade their OS first. To check the OS version, type '*#0000#' into the handset. If it's below V 3.0638.0.01, then you'll need to upgrade via your PC. Remember to backup your data to a memory card first, though. There's another catch. The software is only available for download in eleven countries. Although good old Blighty is one of them, the USA isn't. There's still another hurdle you need to overcome. To get the software, theoretically you need to have the standard Nokia 'Download' application installed on your phone. In the case of the N95 Mobile Software Insight possesses from Orange, this application is missing. That's because Orange wants you to download via its portal. Not directly from Nokia. Somebody is bound to publish the necessary URL and it should be possible to get around this issue manually. Buried at the bottom of this announcement is the fact that Nokia is going to be integrating Microsoft’s Live Search for Mobile into the Nokia Mobile Search application which it is going to start shipping with its Series 40 handsets in future.
