Radvision offers 2-way 3G camerasA two-way urveillance system has be put together by Radvision in conjunction with Spanish software house, Cestel. It enables any 3G phone user to see and talk to a pets via a Wi-Fi enabled camera. Rather than being aimed at commercial surveillance camera applications, this product is being rolled out in Spain by Securitas Direct to some 7,000 households to test the waters. Nokia has previously offered a camera which contained a SIM card so you could view a site directly. With Radvision's latest product, however, not only can you see what's at the other end you can 'chat' with them too. So if you want to check that your pet or child is OK, then you simply dial a number and are connected via a regular video call to the camera. Since the cameras work via IP, there's no need to have a PC involved in the loop. A standard ADSL router will do. The system offers a range of facilities which you'd expect from a standard surveillance offering – such as pan, tilt and zoom. Plus there is the possibility of controlling an electrical device remotely. So in theory you could converse with somebody at your front door and let them inside the premises remotely. Given UK parents' worries after the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal, this would make an ideal child-minding system. Securitas can even offer the ability to record video if you should so desire. The fact that you don't even have to load a single piece of software onto your 3G handset to make it work, is the most attractive feature to Radvision's offering.The full Inquirer story ...
