 Tweeting with Vodafone is possible

by Tony Dennis

This publication has just spent the last three days trying to receive tweets from Twitter on an ordinary mobile phone using SMS/txt on Vodafone. We've finally got it working thanks to Vodafone's PR.

See our previous story here.

Here's the answer. You have to positively turn on the tweets you want to follow. It's not automatically set that all those tweets you are following already are delivered to your handset/mobile device.

So even if you go onto Twitter and set it up with all the details about your mobile phone and confirm delivery, no new tweets will be delivered until you go into the 'Following' sections and make modifications.

Under the 'Following' section you will see an option that says 'Device updates' - with the choice being between 'on' and 'off'. Unless you bother to turn somebody's tweet on, nothing with actually arrive via SMS on your mobile phone.

It's quite a simple and subtle modification, but Mobile Software Insight would defy anybody else to show where such instructions were in the FAQ sections of both the Twitter and Vodafone sites on launch.

MSI thinks that by now, however, the pair of them are thinking of making these instructions crystal clear.

But it just goes to show how many purportedly 'news' feeds simply take everybody's press release as Gospel and don't bother to check even the basic things in mobile software.
